Week long Intra-Mural Sports Competition concludes at GDC Nubra

Leh: The One-week Intra-Mural Sports Competition (Sept 26-30) organised by the Sports Committee of Govt Degree College, Nubra concluded in the presence of chief guest Deputy Chairman, Tsering Angchuk and guest of honour SDM Nubra, Dorjay Gyaltson.

The event started with a presentation of thorough report of the activities held during the competition in the college campus by Director, Physical Education and Sports/Convenor Sports Committee, Dr Tsering Spalzom.

Chief guest Dy Chairman along with SDM Nubra and Principal GDC Nubra formally inaugurated the archery game which was the final event of the week.

Deputy Chairman appreciated the Principal, Sports Director and entire faculty and students of GDC Nobra for the successful completion of one-week intra-mural sports competition. While encouraging the students of the college, Dy Chairman advised the students to participate in various sport events held at UT Ladakh level. He also assured full cooperation from the Hill Council side and urge students to take maximum benefit of various platforms being made available to them at college.

While addressing the audience, SDM Nubra, Dorjey Gyaltson spoke about the importance of indulging in sport activities for the benefit of health in the modern hectic world. He also talked about the various sports quotas available for students in different job opportunities and higher studies.

Earlier, Principal Dr Tsewang Motup talked at length about the various activities carried out by the college and highlighted the achievements of the students during the current academic session. He lauded the Director Physical Education and appreciated the committee members for smoothly conducting the events despite the fact that there is no proper sports infrastructure and playground.

He also highlighted the ongoing and future plans of the college and the huge amount of funds being provided by the Higher Education Department of the UT Ladakh for development of all the necessary infrastructure required to run a college including Indoor-cum-Multipurpose Hall and Playgrounds. He also expressed his profound gratitude to the LAHDC Leh and District Administration for providing adequate additional land for development of residential quarters and for future expansion of the college.

Certificates, medals and trophies among the students who secured positions in various sport events were distributed by the guests. The students of the college presented a variety of cultural programme on this occasion as well.

Assistant Professor Education, Fatima Bano anchored the whole event and the closing ceremony concluded with the formal vote of thanks delivered by Assistant Professor Sociology, Dr Stanzin Namgyal.
