Leh: Acknowledging that the budgetary support has witnessed a massive rise since Ladakh has become the Union Territory, the Principal Secretary, Education, IT, Housing and Urban Development, Sanjeev Khirwar said that several ambitious projects have been planned accordingly.
In an Exclusive conversation with Indus Dispatch, the Principal Secretary, Education, IT, Housing and Urban Development, Sanjeev Khirwar shared insights about initiatives taken so far and a glimpse of new purposed projects. Here is the excerpt of the conversation.
24*7 water supply in Kargil, Leh town
Sanjeev Khirwar said that since Ladakh has become a Union Territory the budgetary support has increased manifold. “In this regard, several important projects have been planned including 24*7 water supply in Kargil and Leh town,” he said.
The Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of both projects are in the advanced stage. Both DPRs will be shared with Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) and after mutual consent, the work will be started after floating necessary tenders.
Solid Waste Management
Khirwar further said that adequate work has been in Solid Waste Management. “Work is going on Legacy waste site in Leh and the work will be started soon in Kargil,” he said.
“Solid waste Management plan is already being implemented in Leh while the work has been also started in Kargil,” he added.
Sewerage Treatment Plant
Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Development said that Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) is already going on in Leh and feasibility is being explored to set up secondary STP to cover left-out areas. “The exercise is also going to explore the best possible ways to utilise the treated water,” he said. He also informed that the DPR is under preparation for the projects.
Cleanliness
To maintain cleanliness across the Union Territory, Principal Secretary, Sanjeev Khirwar said that stern efforts are being made in this direction as Ladakh is one favourite tourist. “We have started cleanliness drive even in night hours and we are going to procure more machines to strengthen to municipalities,” he said.
Apart from this, Sanjeev Khirwar said that tourists and locals are aware to maintain cleanliness.
