Education, Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries are the backbone of our economy and vital sources of employment generation, says CEC Kargil
Kargil, September 09, 2025: Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd. Jaffer Akhoon, today attended the concluding ceremony of the two-day Exhibition-cum-Kisan Mela 2025, organized under the National Mission on Agricultural Extension and Technology (ATMA) at Auditorium Hall, Kargil.
The event was graced by Executive Councilor (RDD) Er. Phunchok Tashi, Executive Councilor Aga Syed Mujtaba Mosavi, Deputy Commissioner and CEO LAHDC Kargil Rakesh Kumar, Director Horticulture Ladakh, Joint Director Finance Kargil, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Kargil, officers and officials of the Agriculture Department, along with a large gathering of students, progressive farmers, entrepreneurs, and women farmers.
Speaking on the occasion, CEC Dr. Jaffer Akhoon congratulated the Agriculture Department for successfully organizing the mela and said that such initiatives create greater awareness about the potential of agriculture in Kargil, while inspiring youth to actively engage in the sector.
Highlighting the role of allied sectors, the CEC remarked, “Education, Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries are the backbone of our economy and vital sources of employment generation.” He added that these sectors are steadily flourishing in Kargil with the enthusiastic participation of educated youth.
Dr. Akhoon emphasized the growing market value of local products, noting that sea buckthorn and apricots have already gained recognition at national and international levels. He further pointed out that mushroom cultivation also holds strong potential to flourish in wider markets. He assured that LAHDC Kargil will continue to extend full support to farmers and entrepreneurs working in agriculture and allied fields.
The CEC further informed that skill-based courses are being introduced in various colleges of Kargil to build sustainable livelihoods for youth.
