Kargil: A tragic road accident at the Shilikchay bypass near the Shilikchay TCP claimed the lives of at least five individuals and left two others with serious injuries this afternoon.
The incident occurred around 12:30 PM when a Scorpio vehicle, traveling from Kargil to Drass, collided with a tipper, causing both vehicles to plunge into a deep gorge.
The deceased have been identified as Mohd Hassan (son of Mohd Hussain) from Stakpa, Liyaqat Ali (son of A.K. Raza) from Choskore, Mohd Ibrahim (son of Haji Mohd) from Badgam, and two non-local individuals, whose identities remain unconfirmed.
Emergency teams, including volunteers from Basij Imam, the Ladakh Police, and Army personnel, rushed to the scene to assist.
The injured individuals were immediately transported to the district hospital for medical care. Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision.
Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Kargil, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic accident.
In his condolence message, he extended heartfelt sympathies to the grieving families and prayed for eternal peace for the departed souls.

Political activist Sajjad Kargili Condoling the deaths in the accident said, “Saddened by the loss of lives due to a road mishap in Kargil. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover at the earliest.”
One of the residents said, “Sad to hear about the tragic accident at Shilikchey, Kargil. My heartfelt condolences to the families of those lost and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
