He also informed that Kungyam village was provided telecommunication connectivity through the installation of a Jio tower under the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) in 2021-22.

He requested the LG’s intervention in connecting the village through a dedicated OFC line for better telecommunication connectivity.

Highlighting the need for better telecommunication connectivity for the ease and convenience of citizens of Ladakh residing in farthest corners of the region, the LG stated that he is committed to the welfare of the people of Ladakh and emphasised upgrading 2G network with 4G network.

He also asked Secretary, IT, Shashanka Ala, IAS, to ensure the completion of 4G mobile services saturation project in uncovered areas of Ladakh at the earliest.

There was a discussion on initiatives LBA could take for empowering women in Ladakh, such as the self-help groups (SHGs), the role of women in stopping drug menace and theft cases in society, etc, for the overall development of Ladakh.

A delegation comprising members of Stoth Phanday Tsogspa led by its President, Rigzin Sangdup, called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the LG Secretariat. Advisor to the LG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS and Commissioner/Secretary to the LG, Dr L Franklin, IAS, were present in the meeting.

The LG stated that the New District Committee would make recommendations for establishing block headquarters and merging villages in the five newly proposed districts in Ladakh based on their meetings with the representatives of villages in these areas.
