Leh: With an objective to provide help to pregnant and lactating mothers, the administration of Kargil has distributed Rs 1.23 crore among beneficiaries of Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) while addressing the nation.
The scheme came into effect from 1 January 2017 at all the districts in India.
The scheme is designed to provide cash incentives for lactating women and pregnant women to take care of their health and child during the pregnancy and post delivery.
The Scheme started in 1st September 2017 and since then under the scheme in Kargil district a total sum of Rs 11234000 has been distributed among the beneficiaries.
Project Officer ICDS Kargil, Nargis Banoo, said that employed women are not eligible for the scheme.

“Women have to register with department and then they receive cash incentive of Rs 5000, in three instalment directly in their bank accounts,” she said.
