Over 2300 runners participate in Kargil International Marathon

KARGIL: In Kargil Ladakh, over 2300 runners have participated in Kargil International Marathon, from different parts of India and Abroad.

District Administration Kargil, Ladakh Police have organized the marathon in collaboration with Sarhad Pune. Runners have participated in full, half, 10K and 5K categories in the event. The marathon is being organized with the slogan Run for Hunderman.

Nawang Tsering from Ladakh India and Agnes Mueni Mutua from Kenya won the 42 KM Full Marathon in Men and Women Category respectively and won the cash prize of Rs 1 Lakh each.

Agnes Mueni Mutua the winner from Kenya said that it was a different experience and said that people should try this topography and experience which is in itself a memorable journey.

Earlier in the Morning, Secretary Youth Services & Sports UT Ladakh Ravindra Kumar Dangi along with GOC 8 Mountain Division Maj Gen Sachin Malik inaugurated the 6th Kargil International Marathon.

The Guest later distributed Medals and Certificates among the top 3 positions in all the 4 categories of Marathon.

Ravindra Dangi While interacting with the Marathon Runners Congratulated the winners and said that both districts of UT Ladakh are turning into a sporting Hub for High Altitude Sporting events and is becoming an adventure sports Api Centre in India.

He further added that More and More people are turning to Ladakh for Marathon Running and these Marathon are becoming a major tourist attraction in this period of August and September.
