On Gandhi Jayanti, LG announces 20% hike in salaries of MC Leh sanitation workers
Leh: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) participated in the celebration of Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti at New Raj Niwas on Monday.
The LG and the First Lady, Neelam Mishra, paid obeisance along with floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
At the outset, the LG announced a 20% hike in the salaries of the sanitation workers of Municipal Committee Leh. Highlighting the significance of October 2 in Indian history, the LG stated that we observe such important days because only a few selected leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri put the country before themselves and made numerous sacrifices for the country’s independence from the British colonial rule.
He also stated that if we forget the contributions of Gandhiji and Shastri ji in India’s independence from the British colonial rule then our children will fail to recognise the cost at which we gained freedom from the British rule. The LG stated this would result in the loss of our rich values, traditions and culture. He also stated that our first priority should be the nation and then ourselves.
Stating that Gandhi always gave importance to cleanliness along with hygiene and sanitation, the LG emphasised that we should always keep our surroundings clean for a healthy society.
The LG appreciated the visionary leadership of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and hoped that India would soon become a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
The LG felicitated sanitation workers of Municipal Committee Leh and also released pamphlets on Municipal Guidelines related to waste segregation and recycling, etc.
Advisor to LG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS; Principal Secretary, Sanjiv Khirwar, IAS; Commissioner Secretary, Padma Angmo, IIS; Commissioner Secretary, Mehboob Ali Khan, IRS; Secretary to LG, Ravinder Kumar, IAS; Heads of various Departments; government and defence officials; sanitation workers of MC Leh and NCC cadets were present during the event.
