Jammu: Asserting that there is no unemployment crisis in Ladakh, the union government informed that the 1,397 posts of various categories have been filled since it attained the status of a separate Union Territory in August 2019.
Responding to a question of Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State (MoS), Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai claimed that “there was no unemployment crisis in Ladakh”.
Over the data pertaining to employment in Ladakh, Rai said, “a total of 2,397 gazetted and 20,320 non gazetted posts have been transferred to Union Territory of Ladakh by Government of Jammu and Kashmir under apportionment of manpower between the two Union Territories. As many as 1,397 posts of various categories have been filled since August, 2019 and the recruitment process for 1090 posts has been initiated”.
The Union Minister said that employment generated for 1242 persons under Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme during the financial year 2021-22.
“Further, under various schemes, employment for an estimated 4780 persons to be generated during the year 2022-23,” he said, adding “It is estimated that approximately 20,000 individuals are employed in Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) in Ladakh”.
Besides, Labour Department of the Union Territory of Ladakh has a total of 8,912 active registered labourers which include 2,556 active labourers of the age group 18-40 years and 6,356 active labourers between the age of 40-60 years.
Regarding the development initiatives planned for the current financial year, the Union Minister said that a Central University in UT of Ladakh is being set up to ensure increased access and quality of higher education while an Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) in Ladakh is being developed by the Ministry of Tourism, GoI.
“Similarly, 10 GW Solar power project in Pang Area by Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd. (SECI), 50 MW Solar Power plant at Taru, Leh, two 220 KV Transmission lines (Phyang- Diskit-Nubra and DrassPadum-Zanskar) and work on Zojila Tunnel at Srinagar-Leh highway are progressing as per schedule to provide all weather connectivity to Ladakh.
He added, “Polycarbonate Green House known as ‘Ladakh Green House’ introduced in Ladakh that has helped in production of vegetables during winters”.
