Hosting CEC Cup in Kargil town would be advantageous: Dr Jaffer
Kargil: Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, conducted a meeting at Conference Hall LAHDC with the Ice Hockey Association Kargil to address their concerns on Monday.

The meeting was attended by Executive Councillor Social Welfare, Aga Syed Mujtaba, Executive Councillor, PHE and I&FC, Kacho Mohd Feroz, Executive Councillor, RD&PRD Er. Punchok Tashi, Executive Councillor, Education, Zakir Hussain, ADC Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Wani, Executive Engineer R&B, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Kargil, representatives of different Ice Hockey Clubs of the district besides other concerned officers were present during the meeting.

During the meeting, CEC Kargil was briefed on various issues, primarily addressing the relocation of the new ice hockey rink from Biamathang to a more suitable location, organizing the CEC Cup at the Ice Hockey Rink Near Airport Road in Kargil, hosting the LG Cup in Kargil to promote ice hockey, establishing a Dashboard for the ice hockey rink, coordinating a learn-to-play program by the ice hockey association, and expediting the documentation process for the Ice Hockey Association Kargil.

The CEC was apprised by Executive Engineer R&B that the civil works for the ice hockey rink at Airport Road are 90 percent complete.

However, the mechanical aspects, including the chilling portion, are pending administrative approval from higher authorities. CEC Dr Jaffer assured to take up the issue with the concerned authorities at the earliest.

The CEC was updated on the ongoing construction progress of the Ice Hockey Rink in Biamathang. It was conveyed that the construction is underway, but there has been a delay due to issues related to land acquisition from the Forest Department.

He also informed the CEC that hosting the CEC Cup temporarily on the ground is not feasible due to the presence of heavy iron rods on the ground.

In response to the concerns raised, CEC Dr Jaffer suggested organizing this year’s CEC Cup in adjacent areas such as Drass, Chiktan, or Kapila.

He also recommended that giving preference to Kargil town for hosting the CEC Cup would be advantageous, ensuring easy accessibility for all participating teams.

CEC Kargil directed ADC Kargil to resolve the issue of registration of the association at the earliest. Dr Jaffer appreciated all the players for their relentless contribution of the Ice Hockey players for popularizing the sports in Kargil.

He also emphasized that players from Kargil have great potential in sports such as Taekwondo, ice hockey, and other traditional sports. He highlighted the need for modern facilities and proper infrastructure to enhance their skills.

CEC Dr Jaffer also committed to allocating a dedicated fund in the next year’s budget to support sports-related development activities in the district.

CEC Kargil also announced that essential sports equipment will soon be provided to the ice hockey players in the district.
