LEH: Member of Parliament for Ladakh, Mohammad Haneefa Jan, presided over the first quarterly meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) for the financial year 2025–26 at the DC Conference Hall, Leh on April 30.
The meeting was convened to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the implementation and progress of various Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) in the district, aimed at ensuring efficient service delivery and inclusive development.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve; Councillor Tundup Nurboo; Chief Planning Officer Tsewang Gyalson; Additional District Development Commissioner Sonam Nurboo; Assistant Commissioner Development AG Zargar; Chief Engineer of Border Roads Organisation; Heads of Departments from various departments; representatives from NGOs; Members of the DISHA Committee; and other key stakeholders.
MP Haneefa Jan led a thorough evaluation of multiple flagship schemes focused on public welfare, including the Central Road Fund (CRF), Samagra Shiksha (SS), Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban and Rural (PMAY-U/R), National Health Mission (NHM), Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), and the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), along with various other centrally sponsored schemes.
Various issues were raised by members of DISHA committee, leading to in-depth discussions around pressing challenges such as the urgent reinstatement of elected Panchayat bodies at the grassroots level, the need for improved public convenience infrastructure in urban areas, low remuneration for Anganwadi workers, and the imperative to prioritize local labor over external hires in construction projects by BRO/ Army.
The MP also expressed concern over the discontinuation of pre-matric scholarships since 2022 and expressed hope that it will be revived soon for the welfare of the students.
Addressing the broader economic prospects of Ladakh, MP also drew attention to the region’s unique agri-produce like seabuckthorn and buckwheat, advocating for better processing, value addition, and export strategies to bolster rural incomes and promote economic self-reliance.
He firmly reiterated that the benefits of Centrally Sponsored Schemes must be extended to genuinely deserving individuals through fair, targeted outreach.
He directed the concerned departments to enhance public awareness campaigns and advertisements to ensure maximum reach and impact.
The MP concluded the meeting by directing all Heads of Departments to implement all the Centrally Sponsored Schemes efficiently and ensure their outreach to every deserving citizen.
He also emphasized that all progress will be reviewed in the next DISHA meeting, which is scheduled for July 2025.
