Leh: Jigmet Tharchin, a mountaineer from Tia village, called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at Raj Niwas Thursday.

Tharchin informed the LG that he is the first civilian from Ladakh to climb Mount Everest in 2021. He also informed HLG that he also climbed Mt Elbrus in Russia in 2021 and then Mt Kilimanjaro in 2022 with support from the Administration and Hill Council, Leh.

He further informed about successfully climbing Mount Manaslu in Nepal last year without oxygen support.

Tharchin informed the LG about Mission Seven Summit under which he would attempt to climb all the seven highest peaks in the world.

He also informed that he is planning to climb Mount Kosciuszko in Australia. He requested the LG for financial assistance for the expedition.

The LG commended Tharchin for his achievements and instructed Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Ravinder Kumar, to look into the matter and explore the assistance that could be provided to Tharchin, including expenses for equipment, etc.

A delegation from residents of Gangles and Horzey villages comprising Tsering Tashi and Thupstan Nurboo called on the LG at Raj Niwas.

Tashi informed the LG about the land acquired for the construction of bridge in the year 2012-13.

He also informed that no compensation amount has been paid to them even after almost ten years. He requested for the LG’s intervention in providing compensation amount to them. The LG assured to look into the matter.
