
Mishra holds review meeting with Departmental Secretaries
Assesses progress of different depts
Leh: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), held a meeting with the Departmental Secretaries at Raj Niwas to review the progress of their respective departments Friday.
The LG instructed the Departmental Secretaries to develop a line of officials accountable for responsibilities in each department to ensure the smooth and efficient working of the Administration.
He also instructed the Departmental Secretaries to take note of and follow up on the issues raised by the common citizens of Ladakh during their meeting with the public three days a week. He further instructed to resolve the issues of the citizens of Ladakh to ensure there are no pending cases.
The LG inquired about the cafeterias and public conveniences at the top of the mountain pass such as Zoji-La and Khardung-La. Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Mehboob Ali Khan, informed the LG about the plan to establish cafeterias and public toilets at a lower altitude of the Mountain Passes to avoid any health issues for the tourists due to high altitude.
Establishing the cafeteria and public toilets will also not affect the water bodies, he informed. He further informed that parking spaces would be created at the top of mountain passes to avoid traffic congestion.
The LG inquired about the postponement of examinations of LAHD-SSRB Kargil due to the closure of Zoji-la and also the progress of work on the Zoji-La Tunnel. He also inquired about the deficiency of staff at PWD (R&B), Special Sub-Division, Nyoma. He instructed concerned officials from PWD to fill the vacant posts to ensure the smooth functioning of the department.
The LG inquired about the feasibility of expediting the results of examinations conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) for non-gazetted posts. He instructed the concerned officials to avoid any bottleneck in this regard. He also inquired about the status of the drafting of Recruitment Rules for gazetted posts and the filling up of other vacant posts through DSSRB Leh and Kargil. HLG inquired about the apportionment of staff between the union territories of J&K and Ladakh along with the requirement of employees and their transfer policy.
The LG inquired about the issue of the disposal of garbage in Kargil. He emphasised the need for carrying out door-to-door waste collection at least once a day to ensure the town and adjacent areas are neat and clean.
The LG also inquired about the celebration of foundation days of states; the cleanliness and waste disposal issues in Drass; the progress on the development of agriculture and horticulture oasis by DIHAR; the progress on the issues highlighted by the Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Giriraj Singh, during his tour to border areas of Ladakh and development works in Disket, Nubra keeping in view the visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Ladakh in July 2023, etc.
The Departmental Secretaries informed HLG about the progress of various ongoing developmental projects in their respective departments.
Principal Secretary, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS; Commissioner Secretary, Padma Angmo, IIS; Secretary, Ravinder Kumar; Secretary, Mehboob Ali Khan, IRS; DIG Ladakh Police, Sheikh Junaid, IPS; Secretary, Law, Fayaz and Head of Departments were present in the meeting.
