Mehboob reviews ‘Regulation of Tourist Flow in Border Areas, Establishment of police posts’

Leh: Secretary, Tourism, Ladakh Kacho Mehboob Ali Khan chaired a meeting to review the Regulation of Tourist Flow in Border Areas and the Establishment of police posts at required locations for proper management of tourist movement Friday.

Secretary Khan, referring to earlier meetings emphasised that Ladakh Police need to establish check posts at Demchok, Sasoma and Siachan base camp as per requirement in consultation with concerned defence establishments by 15th of May, as tourist season has already started this year.

Further, the Secretary urged the HQ 14 Corps to issue a written communication on the opening of Marsamik-la and Ghogra hot springs for tourists.

Pertaining to the opening of Mushkoh Valley in Drass for tourists, the Secretary urged HQ 14 Corps to expedite the process and allow tourist entry uptill designated location, as agreed upon previously.

Deliberations were also held on the submission of tourist entry data from Upshi/Serchu and Shinku-la on a daily basis to the offices of the Assistant Director/Tourist Officer, Tourism department Leh & Zanskar respectively. Additionally, similar data can be collected from the Hall of Fame, Rezang-la War memorial and Kargil War memorial, Drass being operated & maintained by the Indian Army.

Secretary, Kacho stressed that these efforts are being made to promote border/rural tourism, which aims at the comprehensive development of the villages in the border parts of the country.

The Secretary also emphasised on the need to upgrade/enhance the facilities provided to the migrant labourers by BRO and Indian Army.
