BJP likely to announce its Ladakh candidate on Wed
LEH: The Bharatiya Janata Party is expected to announce the name of its candidate from the Ladakh Parliamentary Constituency this week, most likely on Wednesday, days after it released the first list of 195 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections-2024.

The party’s Ladakh unit has shortlisted three probable candidates, and has forwarded the same to higher leadership in New Delhi.

They include incumbent Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha from Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Chairman of LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson and sitting councillor of LAHDC Kargil from Cha constituency, Stazin Lakpa, sources informed.

Their names were finalised in a crucial meeting chaired by Phuntsok Stanzin, State President of BJP in Ladakh union territory, which was attended State Vice Presidents, District Presidents and Executive Councillors of LAHDC, Leh.

The meeting witnessed elaborative discussions on the names of each of the shortlisted candidates, which concluded with voting through ballot papers for those present and through text messages for those who attended the meeting virtually, the sources said.

After counting of votes, three names were short-listed—Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Tashi Gyalson and Stazin Lakpa, sources informed.

The names of these three candidates have been submitted to the central leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party for the final approval process, they said, adding that the party is likely to announce the candidate from Ladakh in its second list, expected to be released on Wednesday.

A week ago, Bharatiya Janata Party’s National General Secretary Tarun Chug had chaired a key meeting to review the preparations of party’s Ladakh unit for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The organizational matters of the Ladakh Bharatiya Janata Party were also discussed in the meeting held in party’s head office in the national capital on last Wednesday, and was attended by Ashok Koul, State General Secretary (Organisation), Phuntsok Stanzin, State President of BJP in Ladakh union territory, besides Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha from Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal.

The meeting had discussed organizational matters of the party’s Ladakh unit and also reviewed the BJP Ladakh’s readiness for the upcoming Parliamentary Election.
