LG R K Mathur leads Yoga Day celebrations in Ladakh, says make yoga part of daily life

Leh: Yoga is a gift from India to the rest of the world and the people of Ladakh may practise yoga and let it become a part of their daily lives, stated LG Mathur during the 8th International Day of Yoga organised by UT Administration in collaboration with Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC), as a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, at the Astroturf Football Ground near Spituk, in which more than 2,000 people, including students and government officials, participated in the yoga celebrations.

LG Mathur stressed the need to make yoga a part of daily life and not celebrate it for just one day as practising yoga gives peace, health and happiness. LG Mathur and other guests performed various yoga asanas taught by Yoga experts from Patanjali Yoga Institute in Haridwar and volunteers from Nehru Yuva Kendra.

Earlier, Founder, MIMC, Ven Sanghasena, welcomed the guests to the event.

The week-long yoga festival is being celebrated in Leh from June 20 to 26 at different venues such as Shanti Stupa, Naro Photang in Shey, Pangong Lake, Khardong La and Wari La, Alchi, Temisgam and University of Ladakh Taru Campus.

Former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, Dr Kiran Bedi; Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal; Advisor Umang Narula; Ambassador of Myanmar, Moe Chaw Aung; Ambassador of Mongolia, Ganbold Dambajav; Minister for Water, Tourism, Culture, Arts & Languages, Government of Delhi, Rajendra Pal Gautham; Commissioner/Secretaries- Ajit Kumar Sahu, Saugat Biswas, Padma Angmo & Administrative Secretary Ravinder Kumar; Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse; DIG Ladakh Police, Junaid Sheikh; Senior Superintendent of Police, PD Nitya; District Youth Services and Sports Officer Leh, Tsering Tashi; Founder, Pyramid Spiritual Societies Movement (PSSM) India, Brahmarshi Patriji; Dr Binny Sareen from Brahma Kumaris; President, World Book of Records, London, Santosh Shukla; President, World Alliance of Buddhist, Thailand, Dr Ponchai Pinyapong; Bollywood actor Gagan Malik; district officials, students from various schools and volunteers from Nehru Yuva Kendra took part in the yoga celebrations.
