Leh: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), laid the foundation stone of the State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC)-cum-Renewable Energy Monitoring Centre (REMC) of the Power Development Department (PDD), UT Ladakh at the PDD Complex at Choglamsar.

The project, approved by the Ministry of Power under the Power System Development Fund (PSDF) for Rs 153.96 crores, will be implemented by POWERGRID.

Terming the day ‘historic’, the HLG stated the project would help improve power distribution and internet connectivity in Ladakh. Highlighting the contribution and assistance provided by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, for the development of Ladakh, he also stated that the said project is a concerted effort being made for the region’s overall development.

He also highlighted the constraints faced by the Administration in the completion of project and development works due to the short working season in Ladakh.

Highlighting the instructions passed on to the Chairman/CEC of both the Hill Councils to complete a project within a span of three years, the HLG asked the concerned officials to compress the schedule and not to prolong the timeline so that the project is completed within the stipulated timeframe.

He stated that the completion of projects within the stipulated timeline would immensely benefit the citizens of Ladakh. He hoped for the timely completion of the project so that it would benefit every citizen of Ladakh.

Chairman and Managing Director, POWERGRID, Shri RK Tyagi, informed the HLG that the SLDC will cater to real-time operations for grid management and despatch of electricity through secure and economic operation of the power grid.

He also informed that the SLDC would be responsible for Load Management by ensuring the balance between electricity supply and demand within the vast yet sparsely populated region of Ladakh. He further informed the LG that the SLDC would play a vital role in ensuring reliable and efficient power management.

The project is being taken up in four packages: 1. Establishment of SLDC-cum-REMC for PDD of UT Ladakh (for SCADA/EMS and REMC systems at Main and Back-up Control Centre and RTUs at sub-stations), 2. OPGW package, 3. Communication Equipment Package and 4. Civil Building Package to establish SLDC-cum-REMC (at Main Control Centre in Leh and Back-up in Kargil).

Chairman, CEC, LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson; Advisor to the LG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS; Secretary, PDD UT Ladakh, Vikram Singh Malik, IAS; CMD, POWERGRID, RK Tyagi and officials from PDD and POWERGRID were present during the event.
