
LG Mishra holds meeting to discuss employment opportunities by developing agriculture, horticulture projects
Leh: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) held a meeting with Secretary, Agriculture/Horticulture, Ravinder Kumar and Deputy Director, Defence Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR), Dr Dorjey Angchok, at Raj Niwas to discuss the possibility of developing agriculture/horticulture projects and providing employment to the people through the primary productive sectors in Ladakh.
The LG inquired about initiatives that can be taken in the field of agriculture, horticulture and other primary sectors for production purposes and for ensuring employment for the overall benefit of the people of Ladakh.
He suggested initiating projects such as locally productive orchards at Nubra, Zanskar, Leh and Kargil.
He stated that factors such as the fertility of the soil, the weather and the area available must be integrated while initiating work on the projects.
The LG inquired about the possible vegetables and fruits that can be grown in Zanskar and instructed Dr Angchok to submit the project plan and start work on it at the earliest.
He assured of all possible additional resources required for the project work.
Secretary, Agriculture and Horticulture, Ravinder Kumar informed about some projects initiated by the Department to start apple, apricot and sea buckthorn orchards along with dairy and poultry farming in different parts of Ladakh.
The LG instructed Ravinder to progress these projects while assessing and ensuring the optimum economic management, local support and acceptability while starting a project.
