LG Mishra holds meeting of Departmental Secretaries to review progress of their departments

Leh: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), held a meeting with the Departmental Secretaries at Raj Niwas Tuesday to review the progress of their respective departments.

The LG instructed the Forest & Wildlife Department to expedite the issue of the rights of traditional forest dwellers. He inquired about the progress of the rationalisation of boundaries of wildlife sanctuaries and national parks in Ladakh.

He instructed the Forest and Wildlife Department to ask the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) to complete the exercise of the rationalisation of the wildlife boundaries in Ladakh at the earliest as it concerns the rights and livelihood of the people living inside the wildlife boundaries.

The LG inquired about the progress of the Dark Sky Reserve at Hanley. Principal Secretary, Dr Pawan Kotwal, informed HLG about the ongoing work on the main entry gate, the Astro globe and the mini-planetarium at Hanley. He also informed about efforts being made to complete the work at the earliest.

The LG inquired about the progress of the exercise to constitute a committee for the establishment/upgradation of new/existing police stations in Ladakh. He also inquired about the Juvenile Homes and counselling facilities being provided at Women Police Station in Leh and Kargil. He instructed the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Shri Satish Khandare, to make the Juvenile Homes functional and inaugurate them at the earliest.

The LG inquired about the minimum and maximum contract work tendered for PMGSY contractors. He instructed Commissioner Secretary, PWD, Shri Ajeet Kumar Sahu, to ensure that the quality of the project work is not compromised.

The LG instructed Secretary, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Shri Ravinder Kumar to take necessary steps to reduce the mortality rate of pashmina goat kids and provide zero-carbon emission corrals for nomads. Highlighting the issue of children of pashmina goat herders opting for other job options, he inquired about possible interventions, including special incentives, to draw them towards the occupation of pashmina goat herding.

The LG instructed the Department of Urban Local Bodies to give top-most priority to the instalment of an electric crematorium at Tharpaling in Leh to provide proper last rites to the dead. He also instructed to keep the area along with water channels clean at the pasture land in Skara along with the instalment of proper fences and benches

The LG discussed issues such as the allocation of funds for the Annual Action Plan of both the Hill Councils; repatriation, transfer and attachment of government teachers; the progress of the construction of Dak Bungalow at Mulbekh along with the Buddhist Studies Centre at Mulbekh; the maintenance of the database of directions issued by Supreme Court; the issue faced by foreign tourists in halting at night at Hanley, etc.

The respective Departmental Secretaries informed HLG of the progress of various projects works under different schemes in their departments.
