Leh: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, RK Mathur distributed sports equipment to students of government schools in Leh, at Raj Niwas.

The sports equipment is being issued to all government schools under Special Development Package (SDP) and revenue component of State CAPEX to develop and promote sports talent and physical fitness of students in Ladakh.

Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson; Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tsering Angchuk; Secretary, Sports and Youth Services, Ravinder Kumar and Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, were present during the distribution of sports equipment.

LG Mathur interacted with the students and physical education teachers of different schools and advised them to give their best for the fitness of students and to develop their sporting talent. He also reviewed the progress of works worth more than Rs 40 crores to develop sports infrastructure in different schools.

Sports equipment worth Rs 4 crores distributed among the school students included archery kits, gymnastics mats, ice hockey kits, cricket kits, football, handball and volleyball, table tennis bats and table, badminton rackets and shuttle cocks, etc. LG Mathur also distributed band equipment, including bass drum, side drum, beater chop and cymbals, and outdoor play area equipment to the students. A budget of Rs 34 lakhs has been allotted for the development of archery in 17 Government Higher Secondary Schools in Leh, while Rs 24.5 lakhs worth of gymnastic mats have been purchased for 32 Government High and 17 Government Higher Secondary Schools.

Ice hockey equipment worth 50 lakh has been purchased for training purposes, while road and track cycle worth more than Rs 3.5 lakh has been purchased for cyclists from Leh. Sports items worth Rs 50 lakhs have been purchased for all the schools in Leh.
