Leh admn acts against defacement of govt properties, reprimands BJP

LEH: Taking strong notice of the logo of the Bharatiya Janata Party printed on public properties in the district, the Leh administration has reprimanded the saffron party and ordered for removal of such defacement in the district.

The office of Deputy Commissioner Leh, who is also the District Election Officer has issued a notice in this regard and ordered for removal of all such defacement of Public property immediately.

The Leh administration swung into action after noticing the defacement of public property in the district by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

“The BJP logo are found printed at various locations in Leh on public property such as the walls of the Government premises,” said the notice issued by the office of the District Election Officer Leh.

The notice said that all hoardings, advertisements, etc. which seek or purport to project the achievements of any living political functionaries or political party and which carry their photos or name or party symbol should be removed forthwith as no political functionary or political party can use public properties, as per the Election Commission of India’s instructions contained in letter No. 437/6/(Inst/ECI/FUNCT/MCC/2024 (AADVERTISEMENTS) dated:- 02-01-24.

“If such hoardings, advertisements or posters were displayed even prior to the announcement of elections, constitutes violation of the Model Code of Conduct,” said the notice.

“Therefore, in view of the above, Tehsildar, Leh (1st class Magistrate, Leh) shall immediately remove the defacement from the Government Property and all concerned Officers shall immediately remove the defacement from Government Property,” it said.

Further admonishing the saffron party, the notice said that the President, BJP, Leh would ensure that such an acts should not be repeated in future which is violation of standing instructions of Commission.
