LAHDC Kargil: NC nominates Dr Jaffar Akhoon as its CEC candidate, coalition meeting later today

Kargil: The National Conference on Tuesday nominated Dr Jaffar Akhoon as its candidate for the post of Chief Executive Councillor-cum-Chairman of the fifth Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil.

The decision was taken at a meeting held here soon after the oath ceremony of the 26 elected councillors.

“Outgoing Councillor Feroz Ahmad Khan proposed the name of Dr Jaffar Akhoon, which was agreed to by the Councillors unanimously,” a party leader informed after the meeting. Dr Jaffar Akhoon has won the election from Thasgam Thovina constituency.

The coalition- NC and Congress- will hold a meeting later tonight, where the final name of the CEC will be decided ahead of his election on Wednesday, he added.

The NC and Congress, which together won 22 out of 26 seats in the council, will share the post of CEC for two and a half years each.

Earlier this morning, all 26 elected Councillors took oath, including two from BJP and two independent candidates.
