Ladakhis commemorate Arba’een, 40th day of Imam Hussain’s martyrdom anniversary

KARGIL: To commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Harzat-e-Imam Hussain (A.S), Arbayeen was observed at Sankoo, Kargil on Thursday.

Arbaeen marks the culmination of a 40-day mourning period after the 10th of Muharram, the martyrdom date of Hazrat Imam Hussein (AS), and his 72 faithful companions on 680 A.D.

The battle was fought on the plains outside Karbala, a city in modern Iraq that’s home to the Imam’s shrine which is a sacred sanctuary for Shia Muslims.

Imam Hussein’s (AS) uprising in Karbala is regarded as the symbol of resistance against oppressors by Muslims, as the grandson of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) with a small troop and his relatives stood up against injustice.

At Sankoo religious processions were organised by Anjuman-Sahib Zaman, Markaz-Tabligah Imam Reza Sankoo. Thousands of mourner’s beating their chests and reciting elegies and hymns to pay tribute to the martyrs of Karbala. Processions were taken out in other areas of Kargil on the martyrdom anniversary.

Religious scholars paying glorious tributes to the martyrs of Karbala, the mourners said these commemorations are aimed at renewing their pledge of allegiance to the teachings and ideals of Imam Hussein and his loyal companions who sacrificed their lives to safeguard the true essence of Islam.

They said Karbala gives a message to entire humanity that whenever truth or rightness is being suppressed and evil or falsehood is promoted.

They also stressed upon the gathering that is our duty to spread the message of Imam (A.S) that has gifted upon us by our prophet. Prayer for peace and prosperity and communal harmony in the society particularly in the country was also made.

The procession calumniated with observing Zeyarat Arabayeen offered by religious Ulamas. Arbayeen-e-Hussain were also observed at GMore, Saliskote, Trespone, Tambis, Lankerchay, Sankoo and Suru areas of the District.

The religious scholars in their speeches on the occasion highlighted the teachings of Hazrat Imam Hussein (AS) and various aspects of the Karbala tragedy. The day is observed every year on the 40th days of Ashrua.
