Leh: In an advisory issued, the Traffic Police of Ladakh has appeal to the public/commuters & All Ladakh Transport Operator Association to abide by the rules for parking and not entering the no entry zone to reduce the causes of traffic congestion on the roads of the Union Territory.
The advisory said
“It has been observed that the road stretch from Doctor Chowk to JK Bank Chowk, JK Bank to Raj Niwas, JK Bank to Balkhang Chowk via wine shop, at SBI Bank point & Near SNM Hospital Leh are the road
stretches where wrong parking is mostly observed in Leh town.
It added that similarly, the stretch from Fatima Chowk to Lal Chowk and Circuit House to Baroo Market are the road
stretches where wrong parking is mostly observed in Kargil town.
It has been observed in Leh town, that in one-way roads like Fort Road, P Namgyal Road (Old Road) &
Changspa Road, people tend to move in wrong direction of traffic flow which lead to long queuing
lengths and traffic congestion.
Similarly, in Kargil town, in one-way roads like Circular Road (along with Suru River), Hussaini Park
Crossing & Lal Chowk crossing, people tend to move in wrong direction of traffic flow which lead to long
queuing lengths and traffic congestion.
As per Section 179/117, 201 & 122/177, of CMVA, 2019, read with Rules of Road Regulations 1989, if a person
parks his/her vehicle in “Wrong Parking” on any public road, the fine may extend up to Rs 5000/- besides the
wrongly parked vehicle will be towed and towing charges shall be recovered from the vehicle owner or person
in charge of such vehicle.
Moreover, as per Section 179 of CMVA, 2019, read with corresponding Section 113, if a person drives in “No
Entry” & against the flow of traffic, the fine may extend up to Rs. 2000/- besides vehicle can also be seized.
General public/ commuters/ All Ladakh Transport Operator Association are requested to abide by the
traffic rules for smooth flow of traffic in and around Leh & Kargil towns of UT of Ladakh.”
