LEH: Deputy Commissioner Leh, Romil Singh Donk, (IAS), chaired a preparatory meeting regarding the First Astro Festival of Ladakh in VC Room of DC Office Leh.
The First Astro Festival in Ladakh will be held at University of Ladakh Campus at Taru, Leh from 27th-28th June.
The festival is being organized by Department of Tourism, Leh in collaboration with Indian Institute of Astrophysics, and is considered a pioneering initiative for the region. The festival is designed to offer a unique blend of daytime academic engagement and captivating nighttime experiences.
Experts in the field are going to host seminars during the day, while evenings will be dedicated to star gazing sessions using telescopes, providing attendees with an unparalleled opportunity to explore the cosmos.
During the meeting, Assistant Director Tourism requested necessary arrangements, including tents for stall markets that will be part of the festival, to ensure cleanliness at the venue by MC, provision of water tanker by PHE Department was requested to provide water tankers and other necessary arrangements.
DC Leh directed the concerned departments to promptly implement their assigned tasks and provide necessary arrangements on time.
He emphasized on the importance of coordinated efforts for the festival’s success.
The meeting was attended by Chief Medical Officer Leh, Assistant Commissioner Development Leh, Executive Officer MC Leh and other officials.
Pertinent to mention here that the other day, DC Donk chaired a crucial meeting with representatives of Anjuman Imamia Leh to finalize the arrangements for the upcoming Muharram processions in Leh at VC Room of DC Office Leh.
The meeting focused on ensuring a smooth, safe, and well-managed observance of this significant occasion for the Muslim community of Leh.
The representatives of Anjuman Imamia Leh from extended their congratulations and welcomed Romil Singh Donk on assuming charge of the Deputy Commissioner Leh.
DC Leh attentively listened to the specific needs and requirements articulated by Anjuman Imamia representatives concerning the processions.
The discussions covered various logistical and security aspects to facilitate a peaceful and organized event.
The Muharram processions are going to take place across several key locations, including Main City Leh, Phyang, Chuchot, Shey, Thiksey, Nubra, and Achinathang. A blood donation camp will also be organized as part of the observance.
The DC Leh issued clear directives to various departments to ensure comprehensive support.
He instructed the Chief Medical Officer to brief BMOs of all Sub-Divisions to oversee medical camps and ensure the availability of mobile ambulances throughout the procession routes.
Special emphasis was placed on deputing lady medical staff for women’s processions, particularly at Chuchot Imam Bada.
He directed the Police to ensure security, including the deployment of women police personnel for women’s processions at Chuchot Imam Bada, managing smooth traffic flow, and organizing proper parking arrangements.
All SHOs in the sub-divisions were also directed to ensure similar arrangements in their respective areas.
He also directed the Municipal Committee to manage sanitation and placement of dustbins along the procession routes.
