Leh, July 11: The Sheep Husbandry Department of the Union Territory of Ladakh on Saturday reviewed its quarterly performance, with a renewed focus on improving livestock productivity, achieving fodder self-sufficiency and enhancing the income of livestock rearers.
The Quarterly Review Meeting, chaired by Director Dr. Iftikhar Hussain at the Stock Assistant Training Institute, Leh, was attended by District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Kargil, Dr. Nyaz-ul-Hassan; District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Leh, Dr. Tsewang Morup; Deputy Director, Upshi Pashmina Goat Project, Leh, Dr. Tundup Namgyal, besides farm in-charges and block-level officers from Leh and Kargil.
The meeting reviewed the department’s quarterly physical and financial achievements and assessed the progress of works under the Special Development Package (SDP), District Capex and various Centrally Sponsored Schemes.
Officials also discussed measures to strengthen fodder development and increase fodder production at government farms and in the field to support sustainable livestock farming.
The meeting further focused on improving the income of livestock rearers through scientific livestock management, value addition to livestock products and effective implementation of departmental schemes.
Addressing the officers, Director Dr. Iftikhar Hussain stressed the need for timely implementation of developmental programmes, efficient utilisation of resources, regular monitoring of field activities and better coordination among field functionaries. He called for sustained efforts to improve livestock productivity, promote fodder self-sufficiency and strengthen the socio-economic well-being of livestock rearers across the Union Territory.
