For the first time in history of Ladakh, a contingent of ten para athletes and two officials from Ladakh attended the 12th edition of the World Para Athletic Championship at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi, from 27th September to 5th October.
Though the athletes from Ladakh did not compete, their participation as observers offered a rare opportunity to witness international-level competitions, interact with professional para athletes from across the world, and gain valuable insights into global sporting standards, training methods, and discipline.
This exposure is expected to inspire and motivate the para athletes of Ladakh to prepare for future national and international events. The initiative reflects the UT Administration and the Department of Youth Services & Sports’ commitment towards promoting inclusivity and creating opportunities for differently-abled athletes.
The people of Ladakh have hailed this historic step and extended their best wishes to the para athletes for their sporting journey ahead.
