Leh: The Union Territory of Ladakh is aspiring to create world-class sporting infrastructure.
Improvement in sporting facilities will not only provide opportunities to the local sports enthusiasts but also promote Ladakh as a global sports destination. Sports enthusiasts coming from different parts of the country and the world will enhance the social profile of Ladakh and boost its economy.
Ladakh is one of the best destinations in the country for ice skating, mountaineering, skiing, and bouldering etc.
Biking, trekking, rafting, camel safari, jeep safari, ice hockey, and polo are some of the sports Ladakh is famous for.
To seek the Center’s support for upgrading infrastructure in Ladakh, Lieutenant Governor R.K. Mathur met with the Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Anurag Thakur in New Delhi. Mathur apprised Thakur of the initiatives taken by the administration of Ladakh in promoting sports in the Union Territory.
Sports Minister Thakur assured full support and he also suggested for tying up with various international agencies for technical inputs and guidance to meet up with the global standards.
Mathur spoke of the need to promote mountaineering, ice skating, skiing, bouldering etc. in the winter sports sector and also requested for support in promoting adventure sports in Ladakh.
