Jammu: Member of Parliament from Ladakh and BJP leader Jamyang Tsering Namgyal today led a strong protest against the alleged Land Mafia at Kurbathang in Kargil and demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter by constituting a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
The MP also warned that they would seek a CBI probe if the UT police failed to ensure fair and transparent inquiry into the matter.
Sources told the Indus Dispatch that the Kargil police have already registered an FIR in the case and arrest of some culprits is expected soon.
Sources said that a senior Congress leader and five other influential people of Kargil district have been booked in an alleged land scam.
An FIR under Section 420, 468, 467, 471 and 419 IPC has been registered against them. Congress leadership has called it “vendetta” of the BJP to score political points.
Flanked by senior BJP leaders of the district, Ladakh MP took out a protest march in Kargil city and asked for a fair probe into the matter by constituting a SIT.
“This land belongs to the people of Kargil and we will not allow the land mafia to usurp it at any cost. We don’t doubt the credibility and capability of our police but we have strong apprehensions that the politicians and influential people involved in this land scam could influence the investigation. Therefore, we demand that a SIT of senior police officers be constituted so that fair investigation into the matter is ensured,” Namgyal said.
The MP said they would seek a CBI inquiry if they found any ambiguity in the police investigation. “Things have changed now. We are committed to make Kargil corruption free. We will suggest that Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) teams should raid the houses of the culprits to bring out the truth,” Namgyal said.
On June 14, BJP district president Kargil Haji Abdul Hussain had written a letter to the Lieutenant Governor, Ladakh, R K Mathur demanding a high level inquiry into alleged land scam at Kurbathang which is a hugely priced land chunk in a crunched Kargil city.
In his letter, the BJP district president had accused that they have learnt from some reliable sources that some senior politicians and highly influential persons from Kargil were allegedly involved in a Kurbathang land scam and it was a matter of serious concern for the people of Kargil.
He had demanded “very stringent action” against the culprits and asked for making the investigation report public.
