Leh: Joint Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industries, Government of India, Balamurugan Devaraj, IAS called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) at the Lieutenant Governor Secretariat.

Advisor to LG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS; Director, Industries and Commerce, Nazir Ahmad Shiekh, Assistant Director, Handloom, Leh, Imtisaal and Assistant Director, Handicraft, Leh, Anjeel Singh were present in the meeting.

Balamurugan Devaraj apprised the LG about the Industrial Development Scheme 2017 and other industrial schemes being implemented in the country.

He informed that the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry has initiated to develop industrial policy in Ladakh. He also discussed DPIIT’s plan about industrial development in Ladakh.

Devaraj informed that he met local entrepreneurs and discussed industrial schemes/ policy with them in Ladakh.

The LG directed Director, Industries and Commerce, Nazir Ahmad Shiekh to coordinate the Joint Secretary, DPIIT. The LG instructed Assistant Director, Handloom and Handicraft, Leh to develop new initiatives for the development in handloom and handicraft units.

A delegation from Kangsing International Snow & Ice Sculpture Team led by Stanzin Norboo called on the Lieutenant Governor, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) at LG Secretariat.

Norboo apprised the LG that the team received invitations to participate in the 26th Harbin International Snow Sculpture competition at Harbin, China and 21st International Snow Sculpting Competition Japan Cup 2024 at Nayoro City Hokkaido Japan. He requested financial assistance to enable the team to participate in both events. The LG directed Advisor to LG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS to examine the matter.
