
India’s Highest Altitude Herbal Garden comes up in Ladakh’s Phobrang village
LEH: India’s Highest Altitude Herbal Garden at an altitude of 14600ft has been setup in Phobrang village of Leh district in Ladakh union territory. Apart from related benefits, this can be a great learning centre at the international level.
Having a major responsibility to conserve the natural heritage and pass on its knowledge to the next generation, the aim of the aforementioned garden is to conserve rare species and to highlight the importance of the flora of the region and its ecological significance.
Having multiple species the garden is divided into several sections. The herbal garden is a dedicated space devoted to growing a specific group of plants like herbs or medicinal plants.
Their garden would conserve various medicinally and culturally important mountainous species and would be useful to do research on their propagation and habitat ecology.
In this regard, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh Councillor Chushul and Former Executive Councillor, Konchok Stanzin said that they are happy to establish a High Altitude Research Centre border’s first village Phobrang.
His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon initiated the new project ‘High Altitude Herbal Garden’ at an altitude of 14600ft.
“His Holiness @DrikungKyabgon initiates a new project “High Altitude Herbal Garden ” at an altitude of 14600ft. We are happy to establish a High Altitude Research Centre border’s first village Phobrang. This can be a great learning centre at the international level,” Stanzin said in a message.
Earlier, herbal garden located at an altitude of 11,000 feet near Badrinath shrine in Uttarakhand was the highest in India. The garden, located in Mana village of Chamoli district was developed by the research wing of state forest department on a three-acre land given by Mana Van Panchayat.
