Kargil: Indira Gandhi National Open University Regional Centre Srinagar Wednesday organized an online session on “Pre-Admission Counselling” in collaboration with Government Degree College Drass and Government Degree College Kargil.
Dr Amjad Ali Abassi, Principal GDC Drass presented welcome speech and gave brief introduction about the college. He also spoke about various problems of students in acquiring Higher Education in different disciplines due to geographical and harsh climatic conditions.
The key note speaker of the program was Dr Shahnawaz Ahmad Dar, Regional Director (IGNOU) Srinagar. He briefed the students about the Open University and its affiliation with other prestigious organizations like UGC etc. He threw light on the achievements and success of the varsity.
Dr Shahnawaz said there were 3.5 million students enrolled in previous year in more than 300 programs and courses offered by the university. He said the Open University is the largest University in the world and has won the “Award of Excellence” by Common Wealth of learning.
Dr Shahnawaz also briefed about different academic programs, certificate courses, diplomas offered by the university. The students were given information about duration of courses, fee structure and course modules. The speaker urged students to take benefit of opportunities provided by the institution.
A question-answer session was held during which students of GDC Drass asked questions related to academic and vocational courses offered by IGNOU. They requested the Regional Director (IGNOU) Srinagar to set up a study centre at GDC Drass.
Dr Mohd Ashraf Wani, Assistant Professor (History) presented vote of thanks to the IGNOU for conducting the valuable session for the students. He also thanked Dr Amjad Ali Abassi for his support and guidance in organizing the program.
