Leh: Secretary, Culture, UT Ladakh, Kacho Mehboob Ali Khan met with the experts’ (team) from the Indra Gandhi National Council for the Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi who are presently on a visit to Ladakh to explore and understand the scope of creation of a repository of Ladakh’s art, culture, music, folk dance, folklores, literature (written, oral, visual) etc. through collaborative efforts of the UT Administration, Ladakh and the IGNCA.
The Secretary, Culture discussed in detail various steps required to be taken up for setting up digital archives, museums, documentation of fairs and festivals and ancient wisdom, digitization of publications and manuscripts of various monasteries, preservation of folk songs, folk dance, folklore and folktales, preservation and conservation of records in Archives Repositories in the UT and other related aspects.
The need for the creation of proper/appropriate facilities for storage and display of artefacts in various museums and monasteries by way of reorganization of museum storage, listing and other required steps as per archival principles was also discussed.
The Secretary, Culture expressed gratitude to the IGNCA, New Delhi for deputing the team of experts to Ladakh for this important task, and expressed optimism that joint efforts of the UT Administration, Ladakh and the IGNCA will pave way for the creation of a well-researched resource of the arts, culture, music, folk dance, folklores, literature in written, oral and visual form.
