Leh: Chairman, CEC Adv. Tashi Gyalson, LAHDC, Leh, officially launched a new cricket bat crafted in Hanu village, an initiative designed to promote local craftsmanship and support sports development the other day.
The sales from this bat will contribute to the carving of a replica of the Bamiyan Buddha on rock at Hanuthang, symbolizing both cultural heritage and community growth.
The inaugural Himalayan Cricket Tournament also took place today, featuring an exciting final match.
Organized by the Dudthul Tharpaling Society, the tournament featured a thrilling contest between the Avengers and Stobshoog, with the Avengers emerging victorious and claiming a cash prize of ₹100,000. The runner-up, Stobshoog, received ₹60,000.
The event was graced by Councillor Lower Leh and LOP Tsering Namgyal, Lundup Dorjai Councillor Skurbuchan, Lobzang Sherab, Councillor Khaltsi, Karma Namdak Councillor Korzok, Stanzin Chosfail Councillor Thiksay, Ishey Spalzang Councillor Nyoma, Mirza Hussain Councillor Chuchot, Smanla Dorje Nurboo Councillor Likir and Jigmet Rafstan, President LBA Youth Wing.
In his address, CEC Tashi Gyalson noted the significance of the bat’s launch. He stated that this event marked a historic moment not just for cricket in the region but also for the local economy.
He emphasized that the bat is made in Hanu, reflecting the community’s commitment to promoting local products. He assured attendees of the bat’s standard quality, expressing confidence that it could compete on larger stages.
He further articulated the vision behind the initiative, mentioning the aim to export the bat beyond local borders while reaffirming the commitment to the “Vocal for Local” slogan.
He acknowledged the support from the honourable councillors in promoting this cause and highlighted the collective effort to enhance the quality of local products.
CEC Gyalson concluded by congratulating all participants and organizers, highlighting the importance of community support in fostering local talent and craftsmanship.
