Kargil, April 12: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Mohd Jaffer Akhoon inaugurated the Hajj Orientation and Training Programme for Hajj 2026 (Hijri 1447) at Syed Mehdi Memorial Auditorium Hall, Kargil.
The programme, organised by the Hajj Committee Kargil, aimed at preparing selected pilgrims from across Kargil district for the sacred pilgrimage. The event began with Tilawat-e-Quran, setting a spiritual tone, and was attended by prominent dignitaries, religious scholars, officials, and pilgrims.
In his address, CEC Dr. Akhoon congratulated the selected pilgrims and expressed confidence that the orientation programme would equip them with essential knowledge and preparedness for Hajj. He urged pilgrims to pray for peace, prosperity, and overall development of Ladakh during their journey.
Highlighting recent developments, he noted that since the formation of the Union Territory of Ladakh, facilities for pilgrims have significantly improved with the strengthening of the Hajj Committee. He also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju for their continued support in facilitating Hajj arrangements.
Dr. Akhoon further announced that a Passport Seva Kendra will soon be established in Kargil, which is expected to ease administrative processes for residents, especially prospective pilgrims.
Earlier, former Executive Councillor Ali Chandan emphasized the importance of such orientation programmes in ensuring a smooth pilgrimage and urged participants to actively engage in the sessions to better understand Hajj rituals and procedures.
The Chairman of the Hajj Committee also addressed the gathering, calling the orientation a crucial learning opportunity rather than a mere formality, and encouraged pilgrims to gain maximum knowledge.
Officials informed that a total of 568 pilgrims from Ladakh have been selected for Hajj 2026, including 467 from Kargil district (208 male and 259 female) and 101 from Leh district (37 male and 64 female).
The programme concluded with prayers for the well-being of the pilgrims and for lasting peace and prosperity in the region.
