Leh: A three-day Cervical Cancer Screening and Treatment Camp was successfully conducted at Hunder Village, Nubra, from 29th August 2025 under the Mission Shakti initiative. The camp was jointly organized by the Department of Social and Tribal Welfare in collaboration with the Himalayan Women’s Health Project (HWHP) headed by Dr.Nordan Otzer and Dr. Swee CHONG , with active support from the Health Department and wholehearted cooperation of the Hunder villagers headed by Shri. Stanzin Chosphel ( Goba) , Nyamthun Thundel Tsogspa Hunder and Ama Tsogspas of Hunder Village.
A dedicated team comprising 21 gynecologists and volunteers rendered their services during the camp. Over the course of three days, a total of 525 women were screened for cervical cancer and other gynecological health concerns. Among them, 143 women received immediate treatment on-site, highlighting both the urgent need for such interventions and the effectiveness of the outreach program.
The camp not only provided vital screening and treatment but also served as an important platform for spreading awareness about women’s health, prevention of cervical cancer, and the significance of early detection. The active participation of women from Hunder and neighboring villages reflected the growing awareness and trust in community-based health initiatives.
The organizers expressed gratitude to the villagers of Hunder for their warm support and hospitality, which played a key role in the smooth execution of the camp. The success of this initiative highlights the importance of collaborative efforts between government departments, volunteers , healthcare professional, and local communities in addressing critical health issues of women in remote regions like Nubra.
