Delegation from Anjuman Moin-ul Islam calls on LG Mishra


Leh: A delegation comprising members of different wings of Anjuman Moin-ul Islam led by its President, Dr Abdul Qayoom called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at Raj Niwas Thursday.

Dr Qayoom apprised the LG of various social welfare activities carried out by the organisation, which, he said, is one of the oldest socio-religious organisations in Ladakh.

He informed the LG that the organisation runs five private schools in Ladakh, including Islamia Public School- one of the oldest private schools in Ladakh- which is affiliated with CBSE.

He also informed that the organisation provides free education to orphans and students from economically weaker sections (EWS) of society as a form of zakat (alms-giving)
Dr Qayoom informed LG that the organisation provides financial support to these schools, where more than 1,000 students are studying, through various sources, including rents from shopping complexes, etc.

He apprised the LG of the ongoing construction of the girls’ hostel in Jammu which has the capacity to house 150-200 girls. He informed that girl students from EWS and remote areas from Ladakh would be given preference who wish to avail of the hostel facility.

Dr Qayoom informed about the Central Asian Museum at the Leh Main Market which showcases a diverse collection of antiquities, manuscripts and cultural artefacts from Central Asia. He also informed about the ongoing work on the translation of the Holy Quran into Bhoti.

Dr Qayoom informed LG about the coaching for UPSC examinations being provided by Anjuman Moin-ul Islam in collaboration with Zakat Foundation of India for aspirants from Ladakh at the Himalayan Information and Learning Centre every year.

He also informed about the land allotted by LAHDC Leh for the construction of a Girls’ Residential School at Saboo. He requested assistance for the construction of the school.

The LG commended Anjuman Moin-ul Islam for their social welfare activities, especially in the field of education for the benefit of Ladakhi students and youth. He assured to look into their demand to see possible assistance that could be provided to them.
