Cultural exchange programme France: Several delegations call on LG Mishra

Leh: A delegation comprising Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tsering Angchuk; Councillor, Shara, Sonam Thardos and ace filmmaker Stanzin Dorjai Gya, called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at Raj Niwas Saturday.

Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education, Padma Angmo was also present in the meeting.

Shri Angchuk informed the LG of the plan to send 20 students of Government High School, Shara to France for a 40-day cultural exchange programme in the month of April. 

He also informed that students of Govt High School, Gya were sent to France for the cultural exchange programme in 2018. 

He further informed that these students in the 11-13 age categories will stay with families in France to learn about their culture and ways of life. 

Angchuk informed that the students from Ladakh will take part in a cultural performance to raise funds for their expenses. 

He also informed that around seven schools in France have already been contacted for educational programmes for the students from Ladakh. 

He further informed the LG that the French embassy has already been informed and the process for applying for the visa will be initiated in the next few days.  

Commending the initiative, the LG expressed happiness over students from Ladakh visiting France for the cultural exchange programme. 

Campus Director, Students’ Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL), Padma Othsal, called on the LG at Raj Niwas. 

 Othsal briefed HLG that SECMOL, which was founded in 1988, offers alternative learning to students who fail to clear the Class 10 board exams.

He informed that SECMOL is different from conventional schools, where volunteers from different parts of the world are invited to teach the students. 

Othsal informed that SECMOL is fully residential, where students, staff and volunteers live, work and learn together. He also informed that a minimal fee is charged from students for food.

The LG appreciated the work done by SECMOL for providing quality education to students from Ladakh.
