Leh: A delegation from Igoo village led by Councillor, Igoo constituency, Shri Sonam Thardot, called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat.
Secretary to the LG, Ravinder Kumar, IAS; Secretary, Michael D’Souza, IAS and Chief Engineer, PWD, Mutalib were also in the meeting.
Thardot raised several issues related to his constituency, viz. the need to install Jio tower to improve telecommunication connectivity in Intsey and Langkor mohalla and the need to upgrade the motorable road from Igoo Dho to Igoo Phu under Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF).
He also informed the LG about marathon runner, Smt Jigmet Dolma, a resident of Igoo, who has won accolades and medals in various national and international events.
He also informed that Jigmet is currently working as an SPO in Ladakh Police and requested the LG to provide her a job in Ladakh Police as a constable or in other departments under the sports quota so that she could continue to bring laurels to Ladakh and the nation. Thardot also requested the LG to instruct the concerned department to frame the Sports Policy for UT Ladakh.
The LG instructed Ravinder, IAS, to hold a meeting with officials of Jio, Airtel and BSNL regarding providing telecommunication connectivity in uncovered areas of Ladakh.
He also asked Michael, IAS, to construct roads to improve connectivity and upgrade and do blacktopping works on roads, wherever necessary.
The LG asked Ravinder to direct the concerned officials to frame the Sports Policy on the lines of UT J&K at the earliest so that sportspersons from Ladakh could avail its benefit. He commended Jigmet for her performances and asked her to continue to work hard to bring laurels to Ladakh and the nation.
Rinchen Angmo and Sonam Namgyal, who are aspiring for the post of lecturer in Computer Science, called on the LG at the LG Secretariat. Secretary to the LG, Ravinder Kumar, IAS and Secretary, Michael D’Souza, IAS, were also in the meeting.
Rinchen informed the LG about the recent draft recruitment rules issued for the post of lecturer in the School Education Department as per which Bachelors of Education (BEd) is an essential qualification along with the post-graduate degree for the post of Computer Science lecturer.
She also informed that BEd should not be made mandatory for the post of Computer Science lecturer as it is a technical subject.
She further informed that the School Education Department of the J&K Government has given relaxation to Computer Science lecturers despite following the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) guidelines. Rinchen requested relaxation in the norms.
Michael, IAS, informed the academic standards specified by CBSE/UPSC as per which BEd is an essential qualification for the post of lecturer.
The LG asked Michael to look into the relaxation provided by UT J&K for the post of Computer Science so that the case could be taken up to the approving authority and the same relaxation could be sought for the Computer Science lecturer aspirants from Ladakh.
A delegation comprising Assistant Executive Engineers (AEE) working in various departments of UT Ladakh led by Shamim Ahmed called on the LG at the LG Secretariat. Secretary to the LG, Ravinder Kumar, IAS and Secretary, Michael D’Souza, IAS, were also in the meeting.
Shamim informed the LG that they all are residents of Kargil and also about the completion of two years of tenure in Leh. He requested the HLG for their transfer to Kargil.
Highlighting the importance of the smooth functioning of the Administration and the respective departments, the LG stated that the transfer of employees who have completed maximum time in a particular district would be prioritised and everyone’s case would be assessed accordingly so that justice is done with all.
