CEC Kargil discusses annual action plan 2023-2024, reviews ongoing developmental works

Kargil: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Feroz Ahmad Khan Thursday chaired a meeting of officers/officials of Municipal Committee, Kargil and public representatives to discuss the annual action plan 2023-2024 and reviewed the on-going works/developmental activities of the MC Kargil (Kargil Town).

Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Santosh Sukhadeve, Director, Housing and Urban Development, Ladakh, Dr Zahida Bano, Superintending Engineer PWD Kargil, Abdul Mutalib, Superintending Engineer, I&FC, Maqbool Hussain, Councilor Kargil Town, Haji Abbas, Councilor Baroo, Sheikh Mehdi, Exen R&B Division-II Sadiq Ali, Exen PHE Kargil, Mohd Hassan, Executive Officer MC Kargil, Shafqat Ali Khan, other officers and officials of Urban Local Bodies attended the meeting.

Team members from PMU DULB, Consultants of Masterplan and Sewerage Network of Kargil joined the meeting virtually.

During the meeting, the CEC appreciated the work progress of MC Kargil and discussed the ongoing developmental activities in the town. He stressed on the new proposals/plans for the year 2023-2024.

The CEC emphasized on the major works that include bitumen layer work of main road in Kargil town and instructed the concerned for its execution as soon as possible adding that the works in the interiors will be executed simultaneously.

Khan said the new developmental works should be carried out mainly along the main road and directed the concerned officials for coordination with the executing agency. He also directed to start new proposed works in the town.

In the meeting, the CEC reviewed the status of all developmental works of MC Kargil. He also reviewed the targets achieved by MC Kargil.

Regarding new works, Khan said the works that need to be prioritized include footpaths for pedestrians alongside the main and circular road, renovation of Iqbal Bridge and side areas.

He further directed to ensure quality and standard of works under the Municipal Committee and Urban Development and make Kargil a Smart City.

A PowerPoint presentation was also presented in the meeting by SE PWD in which the progress of the works of MC Kargil was presented. The work status under SDP includes construction of main road, transportation and road network and footpath in various wards of Kargil.

Under State Sector, the physical progress of various works was also shown through the PPT. Also the physical and financial progress of various developmental activities by MC Kargil under Grant-in-Aid and Swachh Bharat Mission were displayed in the meeting.

The new proposed plans for the current financial year include road along the river from Fatima Chowk to Iqbal Bridge with sitting/viewing deck intervals, macadamization of main city road, upgradation of other circular roads, development of riverfront and signage of Kargil Town, construction of public park with car parking at Balti Bazar, creation of green spaces from Raj Niwas to Baroo, completion of wash facility for sanitation works including furnishing under phase II, replacement of man holes covers in Kargil town including construction of drains etc.

During the meeting, a thorough discussion was held about the identified locations of STP and it was suggested to consider the locations of STP based on utilising gravity potentials instead of pumping to avoid blockage due to freezing in winters.

Various requests regarding the work execution in the town were also presented to which the CEC assured for early redressal and directed to submit the status of work weekly.

The Director, Housing and Urban Development, Zahida Bano talked about the work execution plans for the current financial year and the funding process.

She also talked about new plans and requested for the execution of works at high standard. She said the execution of works will be approved after preparation of minutes of the meeting.
Councilor Town, Councilor Baroo, stressed on proper planning and execution of works in town area and peripheries.
