Kargil, September 04, 2025: Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today chaired an important meeting at his office chamber to review the necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of the two-day Zanskar Festival scheduled to be held on 20th and 21st September at Padum, Zanskar.
The meeting was attended by Executive Councilor Kacho Mohd Feroz, Executive Councilor Er. Phunchok Tashi, Deputy Commissioner and CEO LAHDC Kargil Rakesh Kumar, Director Tourism Department UT Ladakh Tsering Paldan (both joined online), Additional SP Kargil Nitin Yadav ,Councillor Stanzin Lakpa, Deputy Secretary LAACL Nazir Hussain, Assistant Director Tourism Mohammad Ali Tak, Tourist Officer Zanskar Rasool Lal, besides other concerned officers.
During the meeting, the CEC took a detailed brief from the Deputy Secretary LAACL regarding arrangements related to venue preparation, security, uninterrupted power and water supply with backup facilities, medical support, boarding and lodging for participants, and various cultural showcases.
The festival will feature exhibitions of local artifacts, traditional cuisine, agricultural tools and machinery, the Doksa lifestyle highlighting the traditional nomadic life of Zanskar Valley, along with traditional horse racing, yak rides, and other cultural attractions.
It was informed that this year the festival is being organized with a limited budget, and activities will be conducted within financial constraints. The CEC emphasized the need for all departments to work in close coordination to ensure the successful conduct of the event. Drawing from the successful organization of the Suru Festival earlier this year, he entrusted the Deputy Commissioner Kargil and his team to oversee the Zanskar Festival with the same zeal and dedication.
Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar assured the meeting that all necessary steps will be taken to ensure the festival’s smooth conduct, with judicious utilization of resources across departments. Executive Councilors Kacho Mohd Feroz and Er. Phunchok Tashi also shared valuable suggestions and extended their full support.
Meanwhile, Director Tourism informed the meeting that a proposal of ₹24 lakh has been submitted by the Tourist Officer Zanskar to support the festival, which has already been forwarded to the higher authorities of the UT for necessary approval.
The CEC concluded the meeting by directing all concerned officers to work in synergy so that the Zanskar Festival 2025 is celebrated successfully, highlighting the rich cultural heritage and traditions of Zanskar Valley.
