Kargil: In a significant step toward improving waste management infrastructure in Kargil, Chairman, Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon officially flagged off four solid waste collection vehicles Wednesday under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM)), issued through the Rural Development Department (RDD), Kargil.

The CEC commended the RDD for launching one of the most impactful waste segregation programs in the region.

“This initiative is very close to my heart. The introduction of door-to-door garbage collection has brought visible improvement in village sanitation and has fostered environmental awareness among residents. I believe that in the future, people will naturally take responsibility for maintaining their surroundings,” stated the CEC.

The CEC also lauded other flagship programs under RDD such as PMAY and Busmat-e-Goyoks, and urged the department to expedite all ongoing developmental and construction projects.

He extended his gratitude to Director Syed Sajjad Qadri, ACD Raziya Khatoon, and their entire team, expressing hope for continued collaboration and progress with zeal.

Speaking on the occasion, Director RDD, Syed Sajjad Qadri stated, “This initiative will significantly ease the process of waste segregation and contribute to our broader goal of effective waste management.

Under the mission of achieving 100% saturation in water and waste management across the Union Territory of Ladakh, 204 out of 240 villages have already been covered. Now with these four new vehicles allocated to Kargil, nine more vehicles are pending for distribution which will help to cover the entire district”.

He also emphasized that this achievement is made possible under the visionary guidance of the Hon’ble CEC and expressed pride in his department’s continued efforts to keep the villages clean. “Our goal is to ensure 100% sanitation and our teams are committed and performing exceptionally well,” he added, extending heartfelt appreciation to his hardworking team.

The newly allocated vehicles will be distributed to the Shakar-Chiktan Block, Sodh Block, TSG Block, and Taisuru Block.

Present at the flag-off ceremony were, Director RDD – Syed Sajjad Qadri, Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) – Raziya Khatoon, Executive Engineer, Rural Engineering Wing (REW) – Fiza Bano, Accounts Officer to RDD – Sajjad Hussain, BDO, Shakar-Chiktan, BDO Kargil and Sodh Block.
