Apricot Blossom Festival gets off to colourful start at Garkone Kargil


KARGIL: Apricot Blossom Festival 2024 got off to a colourful start at Garkone, Kargil on Saturday.

A large number of spectators, tourists and officials from Tourism Department along with elected officials were present during the ceremony.

The festival celebration programmes will take place in different villages of Ladakh. In Kargil district the Tourism Department will hold programs in Darchik on April 7, in Chanigond, Shilichay on April 13, 2024, and in Karkitchu programs will be held on April 14.

And in Leh district of the UT, the concerned department will hold programs in Hundri on April 11, in Turtuk on April 13, in Lehdo on April 17 and in Saspol the programs will be held on last and final day of Apricot Blossom Festival on April 18, 2024.

The Apricot Blossom festival is a celebration of the unique cultural heritage of Ladakh which will not only promote traditional culture but also provide livelihood opportunities to the people.

Pertinent to mention here that, after Ladakh became a Union Territory, apricot production was exported for the first time in 2021. In December 2022, Raktsey Karpo’ apricot from Ladakh got the GI tag. Ladakh also happens to be one of the biggest producers of apricots in India. The export of Ladakh apples and apricots is a milestone for the region’s economy, as it provides a new source of income for local farmers and entrepreneurs.
