Kargil: In the wake of the recent heavy snowfall in Kargil, Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon Sunday chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the snow clearance operations and restoration of essential services across the district.

The meeting was attended by Executive Councillor, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Officer Commanding 55 RCC/Vijayak/BRO, I/C SDM Sankoo, DySP DAR, Divisional Forest Officer, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Horticulture Officer, Executive Engineers of PHE, R&B, PDD, STD, and PMGSY Kargil, I/C District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Representatives from the Tehsil Office Kargil, NHIDCL, Municipal Committee, and Agriculture Department.

Virtually, the meeting was joined by Councilor Abdul Wahid (Bhimbet), SDMs of Zanskar, Shakar Chiktan, Drass, and Chief Education Officer, Executive Engineer I&FC, among others.

During the meeting, the CEC directed ADC Kargil to mobilize all line departments for the assessment of damages, particularly in horticulture, forest, irrigation, and water supply sectors.

He emphasized that these assessments be properly documented under Disaster Management protocols for compensation and relief purposes.

CEC also instructed NHIDCL to immediately deploy dewatering pumps to clear waterlogging along roads to ensure smoother connectivity and prevent further inconvenience to commuters.

He directed all SDMs—Drass, Sankoo, Shakar Chiktan, and Zanskar to remain vigilant in their respective jurisdictions, ensure the availability of basic amenities like power, healthcare, and water, and resolve public grievances.

Special directions were given to the SDM Shakar Chiktan to extend full hospitality and facilitate the stranded tourists, making them feel at home.

The CEC was briefed that the town trunk line has been charged and will be fully restored by the evening. He also instructed that hospitals and other emergency facilities be prioritized for immediate restoration of services.

The Mechanical Department informed that men and machinery have been deployed on all major and inner routes for snow clearance, and roads will be reopened at the earliest.

Dr. Akhoon urged the general public to avoid unnecessary travel until the weather conditions improve and the situation stabilizes.

Furthermore, the CEC instructed the Chief Education Officer Kargil to announce a three-day closure of all government and private educational institutions in the district as a safety measure.

Besides these, a number of other issues were also discussed in detail to ensure coordinated action and timely public support.
