Advocate Zulikha, President Sarpanch Tashi call on LG Mishra

Leh: Advocate Zulikha Bano from Bogdang called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at Raj Niwas Sunday.

Zulikha informed the LG about the issue of education and well-being of youth from Bogdang. She also informed about the low enrolment of students, especially girls, in the Govt Higher Secondary Schools at Bogdang and Turtuk.

She further informed that the majority of the girl students drop out of school after Class 12.

Zulikha highlighted the need to establish Government Degree College at Bogdang-Turtuk at the earliest to promote women’s education. She also highlighted the need to promote sports and physical fitness for the overall development of women and also for building their confidence and leadership skills.

She further highlighted the need to raise awareness among women about their rights and empower them to stand for their rights through community meetings, workshops and awareness campaigns

The LG commended Zulikha for her work in empowering women and assured her of all possible assistance.
President, Sarpanch Ladakh Region, Tashi Nurboo Jayo called on the LG at Raj Niwas. Secretary, Ravinder Kumar, was present in the meeting.

Tashi highlighted the issue of the drug menace in Ladakh and the need to tackle the issue at the earliest. He requested for the establishment of playgrounds and indoor stadiums in all villages to avoid the indulgence of youth in drug abuse.

The LG instructed Ravinder to conduct a survey to check the feasibility of setting up basketball, volleyball and futsal courts/grounds in all villages of Ladakh and also the availability of land. He advised Tashi to form youth committees with the involvement of teachers to sensitise youth about abstaining from indulgence in drug/substance abuse.
