Leh: The Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor of UT Ladakh, Dr Pawan Kotwal chaired a meeting at Civil Secretariat Leh to review the preparedness for construction of the main campus and operationalizing of the temporary campus of the Sindhu Central University.

Professor Sachin Gunthe from IIT Madras gave an overview of the status of construction of the Sindhu Central University (SCU) at Khaltse and the establishment of the transit campus of the SCU and briefed about the ongoing admission process.

The permanent campus of the University is being constructed in Gothang at village Khaltse, Leh, Ladakh covering approx. 110 Acres while the temporary campus is coming up.

Stressing basic amenities, Advisor Ladakh, Dr Pawan Kotwal said that the Departments of PHE and PDD should ensure that water and electricity supply is provided at the main campus site within timelines.

Commissioner/Secretary, Higher Education Department, Padma Angmo briefed the Advisor about the temporary campus which is being established in the premises of Govt Degree College, Khaltse.

Administrative Secretary, Public Works Department, Michael D’Souza apprised regarding the status of construction of approach road to the site and stated that the fair-weather road is expected to be completed in the next two months.

Administrative Secretary, PDD, Vikram Malik, apprised that the DPR for the project to supply electricity at the temporary campus has been shared with the SCU officials and work shall start once administrative approval is received.

Advisor said that the architectural design of the Central University should be in keeping with the geographical and cultural context of the region. He flagged the challenges related to water access and high wind conditions at the campus site and asked the concerned Departments to factor these aspects and asked IITs to look for innovative solutions to these challenges.

The meeting was attended by the Commissioner Secretary of the Higher Education Department, UT Ladakh; the Administrative Secretary of the PDD, UT Ladakh; the Administrative Secretary of the PWD & PHE / I&FC UT Ladakh; DC/CEO LAHDC of Leh; Chief Engineer of PWD/ R&B Ladakh; Under Secretary of the Higher Education Department, UT Ladakh; Internal Committee from IIT Madras; Assistant Director of Planning, UT Ladakh; and other officials, while the Additional Secretary of the Higher Education Department, UT Ladakh joined the meeting virtually.
