President interacts with tribals groups, SHGs of Ladakh
Leh: The President of India, Droupadi Murmu interacted with tribal groups and Self-Help Groups of Ladakh in the presence of the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), on the second day of her visit to Ladakh.
Expressing her happiness over the pace of development in Ladakh and also for meeting people of Changpa, Brokpa and Balti communities from Ladakh, the President highlighted the importance of the empowerment of both men and women for the prosperity and development of a society and also the country.
She stated that it is a matter of happiness that the rich traditions of many tribal communities are alive in Ladakh. She added that people know about the affection and respect for nature which are reflected in the arts, dances, songs and lifestyle of tribal communities. She highlighted that we should preserve the lifestyle of tribal communities in accordance with the ‘Lifestyle for the Environment’.
The President stated that the people should be encouraged to adopt the goodness of modern development without losing touch with their roots. She added that this confluence of tradition and modernity will prove to be the right path to sustainable development for all citizens, including the people of Ladakh.
She informed about various programmes organised by the Government of India under Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat to celebrate the spirit of unity in diversity in the country. Highlighting the need to preserve the rich culture and traditions of different communities, including the tribals, the President stated that the hard work and efforts of the people of Ladakh will pave the way for its development.
The people of Changpa, Brokpa and Balti tribes along with members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) shared their experiences with the President. They also presented the Hon’ble President with a souvenir.
Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Sanjeev Khirwar, welcomed the President for the interaction session with the tribal groups and SHGs. Earlier, the President visited the stalls and inquired about the various products made by them.
