LEH: Sonam Norboo, the Administrator of Municipal Committee (MC) Leh and Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC), today conducted a comprehensive tour of Leh town to review the status of various ongoing and new infrastructure projects managed by MC Leh.
He was accompanied by several key officials, including Stanzin Rabgais, the Executive Officer of MC Leh; Tsering Angchok, the Executive Engineer of Igoo-Phey Division, Leh; Lobzang Yountan, the Executive Engineer of R&B Division, Leh; Imran Khan, the Executive Engineer of Construction Division, Leh; as well as officials from NHIDCL, PWD, MC Leh, and Leh Development Authority (LDA).
Norboo commenced his tour by inspecting several crucial infrastructure projects currently under construction or planned for future development in the region including residential quarters for sanitation staff at Skampari, construction of multi-purpose hall near Polo Ground, re-development of parking near Siachen Hotel, Circular Road at Shakshaliue Parking, Construction of Modernized Slaughter House at Bombgarh, development of new Transport Stand at Bombgarh.
Construction of residential quarters for sanitation staff at Skampari aims to provide better living conditions for sanitation workers, ensuring their well-being while on duty. Norboo reviewed the progress of construction and emphasized its importance for the workforce.
The new multi-purpose hall at Polo Ground is designed to serve as a venue for community events and other activities. The Administrator assessed the stage of work and provided guidance for its timely completion.
In an effort to ease traffic congestion in Leh, the redevelopment of the parking space near Siachen Hotel was reviewed. Sh. Norboo expressed his concern for the efficient design and completion of this critical project.
Circular Road at Shakshaliue Parking aims to improve connectivity and reduce traffic jams. The Administrator monitored the ongoing work and made sure the project adhered to safety standards.
The construction of a modernized slaughterhouse is a significant initiative for upgrading infrastructure in the region. Norboo directed the Executive Officer of MC Leh to prepare a proposal for the allocation of technical staff to operate the slaughterhouse once it is completed, as it is a vital facility for public health and welfare.
The new transport stand at Bombgarh is part of the long-term plan to improve transportation facilities in Leh. The Administrator reviewed the progress and requested updates from the concerned engineers.
Norboo also visited the New Balli Market near Bombgarh, following directions from the Chairman, CEC of LAHDC, Leh, to assess the basic infrastructure requirements. During the visit, officials from the Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Power Development Department (PDD) were present.
The Administrator directed them to prepare estimates for the provision of essential utilities, including water supply and electricity.
Furthermore, MC Leh was instructed to develop a plan for the Balli Market, which includes the construction of a retaining wall, ground leveling, and blacktopping of the approach road to improve accessibility and safety.
The Administrator continued his inspection by visiting Dambuchan and Ibex Colony, where he reviewed the ongoing development projects:
He assessed the progress of the NHIDCL office complex construction to ensure it meets the requirements for administrative purposes.
The development of a public park near the Airforce boundary wall and another park by the Construction Division, Leh, were also inspected. Sh. Norboo emphasized the need for adding solarized street lights, high-mast lights, and CCTV surveillance in the park to ensure security and sustainability.
The Administrator then proceeded to Tukcha Leh, where he inspected the progress of the Lama Lobzang Memorial Park and the Construction of the Art & Craft Shopping Complex near Polo Ground.
Both projects are aimed at promoting cultural and economic growth in the region. Norboo expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing work but stressed the importance of timely completion.
Later, Moses Kunzang, Director of Urban Local Bodies, Ladakh, joined the tour to review the status of several key projects in Main Market Leh, including Development of Eco-Municipal Park; Redevelopment of Footpath at New Shar market; Redevelopment of Water ATM; and Side Drain Development at Main Market.
The Administrator and Director Kunzang emphasized the need for comprehensive beautification plans for the town. They requested the Igoo-Phey Division, Leh, to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the beautification of Leh, which should include provisions for whitewashing buildings and rebranding the MC vehicles to enhance the town’s aesthetic appeal.
At the conclusion of the tour, Sonam Norboo issued clear instructions to all executing agencies to expedite the progress of these projects, given the approaching seasonal demands.
He emphasized the need for swift action to ensure the timely and efficient completion of these infrastructure developments, which are crucial for the overall improvement of Leh town and the well-being of its residents.
