Kargil, Oct 29: In a major breakthrough, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, successfully mediated a historic settlement between the villages of Youljuk and Khows in the Suru region, ending a long-standing dispute over the Suru River.
An MoU signed between representatives of both villages stipulates that crade construction along the river will be executed equally and simultaneously on both banks, while the Shiring Tsok area will be divided equally. The agreement also ensures proper river channelization to prevent property damage and guarantees water access for local fish farmers.
Hailing the pact as a “historic and unanimous resolution,” Dr. Akhoon lauded both communities for their cooperation and instructed the Irrigation & Flood Control Department to re-tender the project for immediate execution.
Later, Dr. Akhoon visited Government High School Youljuk, where he interacted with students and staff. Responding to concerns over the shortage of Science and Mathematics teachers, he assured swift action and announced that a Headmaster would soon be appointed.
He was accompanied by Councillor Aga Ain-ul-Huda, Abdul Hadi, Executive Engineer (I&FC), AD Fisheries, former Executive Councillor Aga Syed Abass Razvi, and other local officials and representatives.
