Kargil, October 22, 2025: The Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (APCCF)and Chief Wildlife Warden, UT Ladakh, undertook an extensive four-day tour in Kargil District to review the ongoing activities and infrastructure of the Department of Forest, Ecology and Environment, UT Ladakh.
During the visit, the Chief Wildlife Warden inspected various forest nurseries, wildlife ranges, and protection units, and reviewed progress on habitat improvement works, afforestation drives, and eco-development initiatives. He held detailed interactions with field officers and frontline staff to assess conservation priorities and field challenges in the trans-Himalayan region.
As part of the tour, the officer also paid rich tributes at the Kargil War Memorial, Drass, in honour of the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.
In a notable highlight, the Chief Wildlife Warden sighted a Himalayan Brown Bear in its natural habitat, underscoring the ecological vitality and biodiversity of the region. He also visited potential eco-tourism and community-based conservation sites, emphasizing sustainable tourism practices and livelihood opportunities for local communities.
The visit concluded with discussions on strengthening departmental infrastructure, improving coordination among field units, and expanding awareness initiatives to enhance public participation in forest and wildlife conservation.
The Chief Wildlife Warden appreciated the dedicated efforts of the Forest and Wildlife staff of Kargil for their continued commitment to safeguarding Ladakh’s rich natural heritage and promoting harmony between people and nature.
